Ingolstadt, Germany

My pup sitters have been sending me pupdates! I love them!

This morning my generous hosts let me do laundry! I am so grateful for their hospitality. Erica had gifted me my usual breakfast, a pack of babybel cheese and a box of granola bars (as well as coupons for enjoyment throughout the city, my favorite candy bar, a radler, a birthday postcard by Turnowsky, and a puma notebook & lanyard)!

Next we were headed to the biomarkt! She often  mentions going there so I wanted to see it. It’s called basic and they have a wide variety of organic and good quality food, soaps, etc. On the way to the grocery store (one of my favorite places!) we passed the Audi-Ring, dedicated most likely due to the Audi plant in Ingolstadt (Audi’s largest production facility and Europe’s second largest car factory). The grocery store unfortunately did not have a sale on my favorite candy bar, Ritter Sport, but I bought a bunch anyway. I also got Haribo gummies to bring to work. I also had to double check that the Doritos were still called “Cool American” because I saw them in London and they were called “Cool Original” instead (don’t worry, still “Cool American” in Germany).

Near the city center we met Erica’s coworker Julia for a coffee at Le Café, it was her birthday! We all got iced coffee with chocolate ice cream (Eiskaffee). We chatted with her for a bit and then headed off to lunch at a great spot called Frisch & Veg. They have three lunch items to choose from OR if you’re indecisive and everything sounds good, you can get all three! It’s literally the perfect place! They were out of one option so she just gave us more of the other two, a delicious pumpkin/potato/mushroom/feta casserole and a Mexican lasagna! Both were DELICIOUS and Erica ate my mushrooms for me (and the peanuts that randomly came on the lasagna)! In addition to the main entrees they also served us some greens with tomatoes and cucumber in a vinaigrette dressing.

We went into a church with beautiful stained glass windows that’s connected to the old Rathaus (city hall). We were trying to get to the top of a tower in the city but apparently at that time they were only doing a private tour. On our way back we got caught in a downpour! The city of Ingolstadt even posted a picture of the dark clouds on their Facebook and warned of hail. We were soaked! Now we had some time to just chill, talk, and pack my suitcase. On the way back from picking up Karl we stopped at St. Pius, the church in front of E&MZ’s apartment. It’s very nice in there and because of the shape it truly echoes when it’s empty!

Erica began making dinner - pizza a la Erica! Something else I hear about from time to time and was very excited to taste. It was really good! It’s garlic, onions, eggplant, zucchini, and cheese. What’s not to love?!

Now time for GAME NIGHT! Svitlana and Michael came over and we played Wizard! Marko shared with us some beer he received from his coworkers here and Svitlana and Michael had also brought wine. Michael and I both kept sneezing and he told me how all the caterpillars get sucked off of the trees because there are far too many of them and maybe that’s why my allergies were acting up. I learned to count to ten in German (but can’t spell it) and also realized how much language you pick up being around a toddler. Did you know that frogs make different noises in German than they do in English?! I am very jealous of bilingual people and hope to one day fully learn another language!

The game was really fun; I’ve never played before and I liked it. I ALMOST won but Erica swooped in and came out with the W. Maybe next time!
