Staying Domestic

I think this is my first non-international trip in quite some time!!! Let me bore you with my exciting day today before I tell you about my first travel day!

Today was a staff meeting day at work and it was an "all-day" dealio that I believe happens quarterly.. they also just started featuring them on the night shift which I think is really great. Anyway, a little before 10 we got to meet outside in front of our 'Donate Life' flag to celebrate donors and donor families as well as celebrate recipients. April is National Donate Life Month!!! So I learned about some of my coworkers' family members who were donors and one of my good friends in the lab is a recipient and so she said a very nice piece thanking her donor family which also recognized a few other recipients I work with. I was tearing up! Then at the meeting we all got cookies to celebrate our new employee recognition program and we also got blue (or green 💩😉) shirts to wear on blue & green day at the end of the month. After the regular discussions (including our moment of silence for all of the donors since the last meeting) we got to hear from a man named Kyle who is not only a double lung recipient but also a liver and kidney recipient. He is very proud to be the only triple organ recipient in Michigan! Hearing his story was awesome and emotional, especially the details he shared about his lung donor family. It was like a movie except it's real life and he was really there in front of us. Inspirational. He also gave a shout out to the U (especially 6C) for taking such good care of him, which was nice to hear.

We took a fantastic lunch break.. you people would not believe how we eat at GOLM. It was fabulous. Next we got right back down to business and three departments gave presentations about themselves and what they do, which I will be doing for the lab in June. It's a lot less intimidating now that I have seen some people go first and I have some ideas!!! Unfortunately I had to leave the meeting to send my "out of the office" email and skidaddle. It really was excellent though and it put me in a fabulous mood.

Getting my nails done was still on my to do list so I went to a place recommended to me last minute and it worked out perfect with the timing- I beat the crowd by like two minutes and was able to head home right in schedule. Spoke to my pops who gave me the name of the watch place.. I have two fancy watches but both of them have dead batteries. Have had dead batteries. What can I say, I'm a professional procrastinator. Anyway, I beat the rush hour traffic and the watch place was open til 6 so I strolled in at 5:07 and the gentleman got right to replacing my batteries. He was a bit of a chatterbox so I was about 30 minutes late which put my brother into a rage but HELLO have you met me?

He asked me how my day was going (the watch guy, not my brother) so we started talking and I mentioned the wedding and trip and he asked where the wedding was at so I told him oh, the Ritz Carlton, to which his response was, "Which one?" And I'm thinking okay buddy who are you, Mr. Carlton? And it turns out he has a cousin that works for Marriott so they get a friends & family discount and he has stayed at that exact hotel with his wife! Seriously what are the odds? Anyway, he wells telling me some tips and tricks and we hammered on about other things and since I am a psycho about getting to the airport 52 hours early he didn't realize I was in a hurry and he was so nice and I was in such a great mood I didn't mind!

Home was two minutes away so I rushed to zip up the old suitcase, hopefully I didn't forget anything. Although as I'm typing this I can tell you I do not have a hairbrush. Always something, 😂😂😂 Do airports sell hair brushes?

Anyway, unfortunately Lucy hurt her back again yesterday.. I was carrying her outside and she flipped out at the dog two houses down and twisted her back funny. I gave her meds right away but not this morning and she was definitely feeling the pain when I got home from work. I gave her tramadol and whatever the liquid med is they gave me. I'm hoping she take some it easy and is in less pain tomorrow because gram will not be able to manage her meds. So now I'll be worrying about my lil pup but she is a trooper and I'll be back home soon.

Doing well at the airport, had a delicious Sam Adams Rebel Grapefruit IPA at Chilis (which was almost twice the price of my appetizer) but it was most likely a twenty ouncer and it was good so whatever. I will be full and happy for my plane ride. I aleso got my workout in for the day trekking down the bridge to the B & C concourses to get here and now I'll walk back and aaaaalllllllll the way to the last gate of the terminal for my flight.

Have a happy week, I look forward to blogging in Florida tomorrow! 😍
