Welcome to Olympia!
-DAY 3, Katakolon, Greece-
9.7.16 Wednesday
Hello folks! EP is writing the blog today because Melissa took her "waterproof" phone underwater and now it's not functioning... Today was our first port experience, we met Rachel and Sarah for an early breakfast and made our way off the boat. We were unsure about what to wear because there were pockets of rain and sunshine all over the city. We ended up leaving our rain jackets on the cruise ship, which turned out to be the best plan! Once we got off the boat and into the town, we decided to take a bus to Olympia, an area of ruins where the first Olympic Games were held and where they still light the torch. The old pillars that had been built around 300 BC were magnificent to look at. However, there were only a few pillars left standing, everything else had fallen and was slowly eroding. We decided that the rocks that covered the ground were less than enthusing. The humidity and heat was becoming too much to bare so we headed back into town and walked around the shops where we each got a huge piece of amazing baclava! And of course Mel got some Geek coffee.
We decided to head back to the ship, and we ran into Andrew and David, our Australian friends we met at trivia. They were eating an authentic Greek lunch and let us try a piece of their feta, it was so so good and they are so nice for letting us eat cheese right off their plates! We boarded the ship and decided to chill out at the pool for a bit before Elton John song title trivia and dinner. We are now easily recognized on the ship due to our karaoke performance, one man jokingly walked up to us, asking for our autographs. Dinner was very yummy per usual. I enjoyed my crab cake immensely, I couldn't stop talking about it. Pretty sure Melissa wanted to duct tape my mouth shut haha. After dinner we played Sing It If You Know It in the main room of the ship. A fun game where the room split into two teams and whoever sang the lyrics the loudest won a point. Being some of the most popular people on the ship now, we had a reputation to uphold. Our team won and it was a lot of fun singing lyrics at the top of our lungs to some classic songs like Wannabe, Can't Buy Me Love, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and more.
After, we went back to our room to lay down for a "half hour" which turned into both of us accidentally passing out, hey, it was a long day of looking at rocks! We got back up, checked out the activities on the main deck one more time and walked around outside to see the stars. Still tired, we headed back to our room and called it a night. Tomorrow we will be in Crete, need to rest up for fun in the sun on our beach day!!
