Halló, Iceland!

Boston, USA - Keflavik, Iceland

Guys I cant even. I’ve never been so unprepared for a trip! I feel stress and anxiety but at the same time excitement and suspense. It's been a crazy day… I went to work and cleaned up my desk so that someone else can use the space for two weeks. Thankfully it was a slow day and after our Pathology Department Ice Cream Social I peaced out and headed home to finish packing and getting my shit together.

Everything from Amazon came including my TOMS.. whether they are “fake” or not I have no clue but they are tight AF. And I mean tight like tight not like sweet looking (although they are sweet looking too). I tried to stretch them out but have my chucks in my backpack just in case. Cleaned my apartment and it’s ready for two weeks without me. I called a Lyft at 640 (only 40 minutes behind schedule) and I was into the airport and through security within 10 to 15 minutes. It was incredible. I LOVE BOSTON.

I finally got to eat at a Wahlburgers and OH MY GOD. The impossible burger really was impossible.. I would testify that I ate meat. I also had a Lagunitas and then chugged a second one because it was closer to boarding time than I thought. I don’t know if it’s my thirties or what but I cannot chug my beer anymore.. or maybe it was because it’s good beer. Let’s go with that.

I got to the gate just in time for general boarding and met a couple named Mark & Becky from Miami while we tried to navigate the boarding system. Iceland Air gets a good report card from me! I was handed a bottle of water as I boarded and all the flight attendants seemed nice and welcoming. I will say the plane was hot AF. I got up to go to the bathroom an hour in (stupid beer) and ended up taking off my shirt when I got back to my seat… thank goodness I had a tank top on underneath. Eventually the temp normalized but it was rough there for a while. Also had a little bit of turbulence but for the most part it felt consistent and not too scary. I was able to sleep for a decent portion of the ride which is going to be clutch to get me through today and avoid jet lag (nod to midnight shift for preparing me for all situations regarding sleep). More on IcelandAir- the safety video was set to an Icelandic landscape instead of a plane.. it was amusing. Then they showed a ton of commercials for touristy things to do like the rock and roll museum (with a KARAOKE BOOTH!!!), a farm where lamb roam free (since 874), ice walks (through GLACIERS), the lava center (volcanoes!), and more… STOP IT WITH THE COMMERCIALS ICELAND I WANT IT ALL.

We deplaned on the tarmac and got bussed into the terminal.. the cold air feels AMAZING and so refreshing, The Keflavik airport in Iceland looked pretty awesome although I didn’t take too much time to explore. I collected my passport stamp and moved on to baggage claim. I thought I saw my bag so I started to make my way over to it but then realized it wasn’t on the correct belt for my flight. I then saw a man take it off of the conveyor belt so I thought that was strange but figured it must not be my bag and continued to watch for mine to come out of the conveyor belt I was standing at. I glanced back and realized the bag that looked like mine was now sitting unattended.. WTF bro. I speed walked over to it and it was indeed mine. Super shady but I checked and it was still locked so I guess everything’s fine?

Made my way to the fly bus terminal just outside and there happened to be a bus waiting. I’m not sure of the schedule (UNPREPARED) but my ticket didn’t have a time so I checked in and got on and we left! The bus has free wifi so I google mapped my route from the bus station to my hotel and then from the hotel to the meeting spot for my walking tour at 10am. I’m gonna be cutting it close at this point and will probably only have time to put fresh deodorant on and my contacts in, if that. The bus is comfortable and the driver asked us to buckle up before we took off (safety first!)!

The trip from Keflavik to Reykjavik so far is very scenic.. very rocky but there is a ton of moss and other random foliage growing out and around it so very green.

That's all for now.. will update in about 16 hours!
