Flight to Florida
Oh em gee guys... this day.
So everything was magical, I packed all night and my bags were somehow way lighter than they were for Eurotrip 2016. I let my dad's pup out and got a bagel from Timmy ho-ho's then went back to gram's. Got to visit with my cousin and then my momma came over to get me. She gave me a couple of bucks and I checked my bag with the guy outside, which I've never done before. 42lbs! Which is more than the 37 I thought it was but much less than 50!
Then, I entered DTW. 😒 I forgot that I haven't been there in forever.. In Canada you may leave your shoes on and also only randomly selected people get body scanned. Here everyone over 13 and under.. not super old.. takes their shoes off and everyone gets body scanned. Not that I give a crap about the scanner, because I don't, but I hate taking my damn shoes off.
Anyway, I take the tram to my gate and there's no Starbucks around so I just get a water.. And back at the gate I hear the guy mention that the flight is overbooked by three people. Obviously I instantly volunteer to take the 8pm flight and he says thank you for volunteering, you'll get a $500 voucher. So here I am for two fucking hours getting so fucking excited.. I'm even thinking I might stay at the Ritz for my cousin's wedding now since I don't have to pay for airfare.. Shit.
Boarding has almost completed when they come on the speaker and say, "thanks to the volunteers but we don't need you." I am instantly so sad and so mad at the same time. Now I'm boarding last and I don't have a pre-assigned seat due to the cheapness of my ticket so I'm thinking I'm going to have the WORST seat on the plane.. Got a middle seat between a super old lady and a sleepy married dude. I will say that at least I was close enough to the window to see out of it and the plane was in nice shape- I don't think I've been on one that didn't have no smoking signs lol.
The old lady loved my iPad case but she doesn't have an iPad, then asked me where I got it and when I said "Amazon" she said she doesn't use that because she has to pay for everything with cash. She asked me what my iPod was as well and after I explained it to her I removed my headphones multiple times to talk some more. She even thought it pertinent to ask me if I voted and when I chose to say "I won't be here for the election" she told me Trump had just been in Detroit and that I should have voted absentee because that's what she did. I certainly did vote absentee but I certainly didn't vote for Mr. Trump and I certainly wasn't going to discuss that with her or anyone, especially not on my vacation. She also somehow drank 4 cups of coffee, a cup of tomato juice, and a cup of water without going to the bathroom, which I'll admit was quite impressive.
After we landed safely and I got my bags, I found the Go Shuttle, which is what took my dad and Lisa to the hotel in about 20 minutes. Unfortunately for me, the one guy going to Miami Airport said his flight on Air France wasn't until after 9p so the driver took us all the way to south beach first. I was on the bus for over two hours.
Finally I made it to the Courtyard Marriott where we all ate dinner on the patio. It was good and I was VERY hungry.
I am thankful that I did get to see the beautiful Michigan fall from the sky and that tomorrow I'm getting on a CRUISE SHIPPPP! Oh, and that I won't be in the USA when the new President gets elected. #BYE
