Nuremberg, Germany

Sat 9/26/15, Nuremburg

We woke up and got dressed and then had traditional German breakfast- different kinds of bread, meat, cheese, and spreads. We also had kaffee (coffee!)!

We left pretty early for the run and met marko’s parents and jens’ parents there. All four of them are the sweetest people you’ll ever meet, I met them first at Erica and Marko’s wedding and again at Marko’s birthday dinner. Andre was running in my place since I have the stupid cast, the run is called Runterra and offers 40 obstacles in an 8k period, they were running the course twice to complete 16k. Andre had to wear my BIB which said “Torpedo Melissa” thanks to Marko. It is also worth noting that erica’s BIB said prinzessin (princess) Erica. I asked why torpedo wasn’t in German and then inserted my foot in my mouth when the answer was because torpedo us a German word. Bahahaha oops.

Photo four is Karl-Heinz (Marko’s dad), Andre, me, uncle eberhard (jens’ dad), and jens (pronounced yen-s). We are drinking beer that the parents bought for us!

There were all sorts of pep talks and things pre-run, it was cool to watch everybody but I wish I had been able to run. They took off and the parents and I walked around trying to find them on the course. I got very excited when we did and I took several photos.

While we waited for them to be done the parents kept offering to buy me things but I don’t eat meat and didn’t want sweets. Mrs. Zietzsch bought me a coffee and Jens’ mom bought me a little cup of vegetables! Did I say how awesome and thoughtful they are?!?!

After that we drove back to Jens’ and then walked like a mile to this great Biergarten (beer garden). Erica helped me out with the menu and I got pancake soup and baked cheese.. Lol that photo was blurry but I’ll post it anyway, I thought I had it in this set but I guess not. The soup came first and was like a chicken broth with soft tortilla strips, it was good. Then the cheese was baked and came with bread and jam. I noticed that everyone’s meat meal came with sauerkraut which I totally forgot they have in Germany and upon seeing my excitement Jens and his mom without hesitation passed their bowls of sauerkraut to me and it was so good!

We each had a few beers and a shot of something and then walked back to Jens’ where we got to have more beers and hang out and I got to hold happy (one of Jens’ mice).

I had a fantastic day and slept very easily.
